...and chaos ensued: preschool

So if it seems I'm blogging in spurts lately, it's because I am! May is almost as chaotic in our house as March is. We've had:

Second Grade Reader's Theater

A trip to downtown Chicago to go to the Lincoln Park Zoo with friends

Preschool Spring Musical

Bug's Dance Recital (and dress rehearsal, and photos)

Bug's Field Day

The school district's Fine Art Festival (Boo had two pieces of art shown)

A piano recital

A Brownie Girl Scout Court of Honor for Boo

Multiple birthday parties to attend

2nd Grade Spring Party

(the apron was made by the students using their pinky and index fingers to make fingerprint ants!)

And the last day of preschool!!

We participated in our church's day of service, picked up trash at the local park as a Girl Scout service project, started softball, tball and baseball and I also finished up co-leading a 32 week Bible study. As you can see, it's been quite hectic. I hope you'll excuse my sporatic entries!

Preschool Field Trip

Bug's preschool class and the class from the room next door went on a field trip to a greenhouse oday. I was lucky enough to be able to go with them (Thanks Kim!).

We went to Lizzie's Garden, a local greenhouse.

We met the owner (Liz) and were given a tour by one of the gardening staff. I wish I could remember her name... she was very knowledgeable. She stepped the children through the various parts of the growing process - seedlings, "baby" flowers, cool rooms, hot houses, sales floor. The kids seemed to enjoy themselves, asking interesting questions about the equipment and the flowers.

Here are the children learning about clean dirt... yep, clean dirt. A machine takes the dirt and cleans it by heating it to kill bugs and bacteria and aerating it to make it excellent for growing.

Each student got to plant their own begonia and take a geranium home.

While they enjoyed learning about various plants, I think they were more fascinated with the worms on the ground. There were quite a lot of them as it rained almost all day yesterday.
